Mayor for a Day Rules and Regulations

Mayor for a Day

The successful applicant will be invited to meet Mayor Meghan Lahti, enjoy some food, take a tour of City Hall and Inlet Centre Fire Hall, and learn about the role of mayor and council. Mayor for a Day activities will take place after school on Thursday, November 20, 2025 (World Children’s Day) or an alternative date, if necessary, as agreed upon by Mayor Lahti and the successful applicant.


Eligibility
Children between the ages of 5 and 12 who are Port Moody residents are eligible to apply. One entry per eligible child will be accepted.


Selection
Mayor Lahti will select one applicant to be Mayor for a Day after reading all submissions with names blocked out to ensure the decision is made without bias. The City will announce the successful applicant in October 2025.


How to fill out and submit your form
Each applicant must tell us, in writing, what they would do if they were Port Moody’s mayor (submissions should be 50 to 250 words; parents or guardians may assist children who need help with writing). The application form must be signed by the child’s parent or guardian. Please hand in paper forms at City Hall Reception (100 Newport Drive). Application forms are also available online at portmoody.ca/mayorforaday. All forms, paper or digital, must be submitted by 5pm on Saturday, September 27, 2025.


Collection of informaiton

Personal information is collected for the City of Port Moody pursuant to Section 26 of the British Columbia Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 165 and will be used for the sole purpose of administering the Mayor for a Day 2025 Special Project. The applicant’s answer to the question “What would you do if you were mayor for a day?” and the 2025 applicant’s first name and age may be made publicly available as part of the 2025 Mayor for a Day special project. No other personal information submitted via this application form will be made visible to the public.
